Formerly, the site's cornerstone function consisted of letting people vote stories up or down, called digging and burying, respectively, but as of Digg v4, the "bury" function has been removed.
Digg started out as an experiment in November 2004 by Kevin Rose, Owen Byrne, Ron Gorodetzky, and Jay Adelson. Only Rose and Gorodetzky still play an active role in the management of the site.
